We are halfway to my birthday and almost half way to meeting our goal! We need $180 to be on track for our goal of $3,500 in 35 days!
Today was my Gramps’ birthday, And it is also the day that we buried my Grams last year. My Gramps died when I was 13 years old. On his birthday every year after his death we would go to In-n-Out for dinner and then go Christmas caroling with the family. It was a special family day and we always looked forward to this night of being together and Grams and Gramps’ house and caroling together.
My Gramps had Parkinsons Disease and so most of my life I remember him falling into walls and stuttering with his speech. But my most favorite memory was of my 6th birthday, the same one when my Grams made the Barbie cake. After all the celebration was over, my Gramps stood up and told me there was one more gift but it was in the car. We all went outside the restaurant, he opened the trunk of his Buick and inside was a hand made doll house. It was exactly what I wanted. He made furniture, all the accessories that were needed were there, and it was perfect. My Grams told me many years later that he had been working on it for months and he was so excited to give it to me.
Grandparents are extra special. Today I celebrate my Gramps’ birthday and I remember my Grams’ life. I have so many memories with these two very special people and they are missed!
